In a perfect world, electrical insulation would allow no current to flow through it. Unfortunately, several factors can — and will — result in the deterioration and failure of electrical insulation over time. Excessive heat or cold, moisture, dirt, corrosive vapors, oil, vibration, aging, and damaged wiring can all compromise an insulation system. Faulty insulation can result in equipment underperformance and downtime, as well as pose a danger to personnel.

Over 20 years ago AEMC® revolutionized the ground testing market by offering clamp-on ground testers eliminating the need to test with auxiliary rods. AEMC continues to advance the technology with both sophisticated instrumentation instruments for testing transmission tower grounding as well as simplifying fall of potential testing operation with models that are designed to ensure the right measurements are performed accurately.

An overview of the fundamentals of grounding and fall of potential are provided with an explanation of how the brand-new ground resistance tester model 6424 both simplifies the process by storing the three resistance measurements used to complete the simplified 62% ground test (52%, 62%, and 72%) and calculating the average and % deviation reducing overall testing time, and eliminating errors ensuring accuracy.

Additionally, model 6424 can detect hazardous voltages up to 700 Volts AC or DC and prevent the test from starting alerting the operator of a safety hazard, as well as other key features.
