In a perfect world, electrical insulation would allow no current to flow through it. Unfortunately, several factors can — and will — result in the deterioration and failure of electrical insulation over time. Excessive heat or cold, moisture, dirt, corrosive vapors, oil, vibration, aging, and damaged wiring can all compromise an insulation system. Faulty insulation can result in equipment underperformance and downtime, as well as pose a danger to personnel.

GROUND RESISTANCE TESTING also referred to earth resistance testing finds its roots in the early 1930s with significant electronics innovative developments in the 1950s and 1960s. Over 20 years ago AEMC® revolutionized the ground testing market by offering clamp-on ground testers eliminating the need to test with auxiliary rods. AEMC continues to advance the technology with both sophisticated instrumentation instruments for testing transmission tower grounding as well as simplifying fall of potential testing operation with models that are designed to ensure the right measurements are performed accurately.
An overview of the fundamentals of grounding and fall of potential are provided with an explanation of how the brand-new ground resistance tester model 6424 both simplifies the process by storing the three resistance measurements used to complete the simplified 62% ground test (52%, 62%, and 72%) and calculating the average and % deviation reducing overall testing time, and eliminating errors ensuring accuracy.
Additionally, model 6424 can detect hazardous voltages up to 700 Volts AC or DC and prevent the test from starting alerting the operator of a safety hazard, as well as other key features. DATA LOGGERS serve several very important tasks. They assist in preventative maintenance by enabling a person to quickly accomplish documenting information needed to support the proper operation of production systems and processes. Data Loggers serve as a technicians eyes to find intermittent problems, as some parameters and events cannot be seen in real time. Reviewing and analyzing the recorded data on a computer screen is more beneficial then an engineer trying to spot an issue manually.
Data loggers come in all shapes and sizes and cut across a wide price spectrum from hundreds of dollars to thousands of dollars. You can break down the requirement into two types, those measuring and recording AC information and those measuring and recording DC information.
A new breed of data loggers called simple loggers have emerged which take away all the up-front decision making for the installer. These loggers are usually low-cost single channel devices that that can be installed quickly in a wide variety of applications.
